Healthcare counselor educated outside EU and EEA
As of July 1, 2019, a Healthcare Counselor is a certified profession in Sweden. This means that the professional title is protected and that only those that are registered can call themselves a Healthcare Counselor. On this page, we provide information on what is needed to apply for certification.
The National Board of Health and Welfare is currently working on a way to Healthcare Counsellor certification for those educated outside of the EU and EES. We estimate that this work will be finished during 2023. We will publish information about what is needed for the application here on this page.
Have you worked at least five years in Sweden?
If you have been working as a counsellor in the healthcare sector in Sweden for at least five years, you may be subject to transitional regulations regarding Healthcare Counsellor certification.
