Step 4 Undergo clinical training

During your clinical training period you demonstrate your practical knowledge and skills and your suitability for the profession. At the same time, you will see how the Swedish healthcare system works.

Clinical training has two components – with a licenced chiropractor and in the public healthcare system. The order is your choice, and you can divide your time among a number of different facilities.

Follow these steps

  1. You have to find workplaces yourself where you can do your clinical training.
  2. When you have completed your training, your manager and your supervisor will fill out a certificate for your clinical training. It should be one certificate for each workplace. In the introduction of the form, there is in-depth information for both interns and employers. This information should be read by both you as an intern and your employer before agreeing on clinical training. The appendix Statutes that are important in the work of a chiropractor (in Swedish) serves as a guide to working with regulations during your training.
  3. Enclose the certificates when you submit your application for a licence in the next step.

Certificate of clinical training is under construction and will be published here as soon as it is done (only in Swedish).

Frequently asked questions

How long is the period of clinical training

You do your clinical training during 9 months with a licenced chiropractor and 3 months months in the public healthcare system. It is up to you to find a facility that will offer you clinical training, and you  must be able to support yourself during that time. It might be a good idea to speak with the Public Employment Service or contact a potential employer directly.

Nine months with a licenced chiropractor

Your time with a licenced chiropractor is your opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and find out how the profession is practiced in Sweden. You may choose to undergo part-time clinical training but it must add up to a total of nine months of full-time practice.

The chiropractors in charge of your training must fill out our form to certify your participation, the period of time involved and any recommendation by your supervisor that you be awarded a licence.

Three months in the public healthcare system

You will have one or more supervisors during your three months in the public healthcare system. You must practice in both primary care and hospital settings. Orthopaedics, neurology, rheumatology and medical rehabilitation are all suitable hospital wards.

Your supervisors must fill out our form and certify that you have participated, what you did, where you practiced and what periods of time were involved.

Submit the certificates when applying for a licence

Submit originals of the certificates when applying for a licence.

Can I skip clinical training if I have worked in my profession?

No. You will need to undergo clinical training even if you have practised your profession before. Previous experience does not entitle you to a shorter period of clinical training.
